South River Ice Hockey Opens League Play with Win

The South River Ice Hockey team began MSHL League play on the Eastern Shore taking on Easton. In what has typically been an evenly matched game in years past did not continue, with South River scoring early and often in a 14-2 victory. South River scored seven first period goals, from Mike Williams, Sean O’Hara (2), Nick Kandra (2), John McElhenney and Brendan McMullen. Assist were recorded by Ty Kaplow (3), Vinnie Venuti, Sean O’Hara, and Chris Mohler. The scoring continued as South River add three more goals, from Vinnie Venuti (assisted by Brendan McMullen, John McElhenney and Shane Smith (assisted by Ethan Franz). South River finished out the game scoring another four goals in the third period, from Shane Smith (assisted by Ryan Travis), Ethan Frantz (assisted by Mike Williams and Nick Kandra), Chris Mohler (assisted by Chris Loveridge) and Brendan McMullen (assisted by Ethan Frantz and Mike Williams). Time in net was split between Zach Baxter (15 minutes, 5 SOG, GA 0) and Evan Jones (30 minutes, 10 SOG, GA 2).
