Sophomore Vinnie Venuti scored the go ahead goal with 14 minutes left in the third period to give visiting South River Ice Hockey a 2-1 win to open the season. Mike McElhenny scored his first goal of the season in the second period. South River was led by a strong defense that was anchored by Cian Foran, Ty Kaplow, Britt Cave-Hawkins and Thomas Pedersen. Goalie Joe McElhenny saved 19 of the 20 shots he faced for the win.
