South River Seahawks Boys Lax Claims Third State Crown

The Seahawks faced off against an undefeated team to come away with the title.

The South River Seahawks swooped in to claim the class 4A/3A title for the third year, beating a previously undefeated team to get the 2014 crown.

Leading up to Tuesday's game, the Howard Lions had been unbeatable this season.

The final score in the 4A/3A matchup was 9-6, with the Seahawks (17-2) putting up an unrelenting defense that threw the Lions (18-1) off their game, The Washington Post reported, describing the Lions as "jittery" and "unbalanced."

The team's defense was noted for its tenacity by The Washington PostThe Baltimore Sun and the Arundel Voice.

"I think our defense is the best in the state," Seahawks coach Paul Noone told The Washington Post.

MPSSAA reports this was the third state title for the Seahawks.
