Stories of Our Ancestors - Smithsonian Evening Lecture
Get a snapshot of local history at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and learn about the land's soldiers, farmers and slaves.

The story of SERC is the story of Maryland. Over the centuries, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center has been home to fishers and hunter-gatherers, Revolutionary War soldiers and slave families. Who were the land’s early inhabitants, and what environmental footprints did they leave behind? This talk will explore the lives of the people who shaped the land that became SERC: Native Americans, settlers, slaves, farmers and—finally—scientists.
