The Killarney House Celebrates 10 Years in Davidsonville

Popular Irish restaurant and pub toasts landmark occasion with live music, cold drinks, delicious food and a photo contest.

It seems like only yesterday the Killarney House opened its doors in Davidsonville.

With a delectable menu of traditional Irish fare, it took no time for locals to discover this unique establishment that has since become a mainstay in the community.

A meeting ground for a local sports team or the Rotary Club; a quaint spot for date night; or a place to listen to live music, Killarney House is home to all.

In fact, some would say that Killarney House is Davidsonville’s version of “Cheers” – the infamous bar featured in the popular 1980’s television series.

Killarney House is like “Cheers” is a place where “everybody knows your name” and “they're always glad you came.”

An event like no other

On Sunday, August 28, Killarney House will mark its 10 year anniversary with a celebration like no other.

A fun time for all, folks will be treated to live music on the patio while the staff grills up complimentary hamburgers and hotdogs.  A special anniversary drink will make its debut and commemorative t-shirts and beverage koozies will be available.

The restaurant and bar will be open for normal business hours.

Michael Galway and Anthony Clarke, owners of the Killarney House and Davy Lyng, general manager, said they want to thank their wonderful customers and the local community for 10 terrific years.

“We hope to be here for many years to come and are grateful for the continued support and patronage,” said Galway, Clarke and Lyng.

Melanie Ferranti, manager of Killarney House, is spear-heading the anniversary event.

Smile for the camera

Ferranti mentions that along with free food and live music, Killarney House is searching for the most memorable and/or creative photos taken at the restaurant.  Submitted photos will be included in a slideshow that will be shown during the event on televisions located in the pub.

The individual who enters the most remarkable photo will win a $25 gift certificate for use at the restaurant.  Pictures may be emailed to Melanie Ferranti at mferranti@comcast.net  and must be submitted no later than August 20.

A brief history lesson and restaurant overview

The Killarney House is located at 584 West Central Avenue, just a short distance from Homestead Gardens and is named after the town of Killarney which is located in the southwest of Ireland in County Kerry.

The restaurant opened in August 2001 and sits on the property previously owned by the Spring House restaurant. The Spring House burned to the ground in the late 1990s at which time Galway and Clarke bought the space and built the Killarney House.

Today, it features a grand dining area filled with Irish memorabilia, a cozy pub and an intimate patio overflowing with seasonal flowers.

The menu includes popular Irish items such as shepherds pie, corned beef and cabbage and fish and chips. The ever-classic hamburger, savory soups, fresh salads, sensational seafood, meat, chicken and vegetarian dishes and gluten-free offerings provide something for everyone.

On the weekends, folks sit back with a pint of Guinness and listen to some of the best traditional Irish and adult contemporary music in the area.

Linda Pearson is one of the old-timers at Killarney - having worked there for nine years. Pearson says she loves Killarney because of the warm and inviting atmosphere created by co-workers and the customers.

“People always remark that the minute they walk into Killarney they feel at home,” said Pearson.

Now you can’t say that about many places these days.
