DAVIDSONVILLE, MD — Several local residents were spotted scampering around the countryside last week in hot pursuit of a cute critter on the loose. It turned out that a goat had escaped its pen and was on the lam. People were worried that it might get hit as it wandered precariously close to the gravel road, so they took action.

Sandra Harris of Davidsonville told UPI she called her fiancé Jim Anderson when he didn't arrive home at the scheduled time last Saturday. He told her he had spotted a goat roaming around on Rutland Road.

"I drove by the farm where there is always sheep and goats, and I saw [a goat] was on the wrong side of the fence," Anderson told the Capital Gazette. "I was frantically trying to get someone on the phone, and the hunt was on."

Harris has worked in animal rescue for 20 years, so she hopped in her vehicle and headed straight to the scene. She and Anderson chased the goat for a while to no avail until others spied their plight and pitched in to help.

Finally, someone successfully grabbed the energetic goat.

"A guy tackled the goat," Harris said. "The goat let us pet him then because he was tackled and hostage."

The goat was safely returned to its owner's property.
