Firefighters Rescue Man From Well Near Davidsonville

A worker trapped in a well Wednesday morning was rescued by first responders, Anne Arundel emergency officials said.

DAVIDSONVILLE, MD — A worker was rescued from a well near Davidsonville Wednesday morning, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Officials said the 52-year-old victim was conscious and alert when first responders arrived.

Anne Arundel crews reported at 9:50 a.m. that they were called to assist a worker who had fallen in a well in the 2300 block of Rutland Road. The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services was also at the scene providing mutual aid.

Firefighters used their technical expertise to extract the victim, who was reportedly on the job at the time.

The man worked for a water treatment and well company and had fallen approximately 40 feet down, according to WBAL, which reported rescuers had him out within an hour.

A firefighter wearing a harness was lowered to extract the victim, who avoided serious injury by using the walls of the well to slow him down as he fell, a fire department spokesperson told The Capital.

By 10 a.m., authorities said that the worker had been removed from the well and was being evaluated by paramedics.

Firefighters reported they were clearing the scene at 10:25 a.m. after the man declined medical transport.
