UPDATE: Woman Dies in Head-On Lothian Crash With Dump Truck
A crash near Lothian killed a Dunkirk woman after her car and a dump truck collided, Anne Arundel County authorities say.

UPDATED at 9:30 a.m. Friday LOTHIAN, MD — A Dunkirk woman has died from injuries suffered when her car reportedly crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a dump truck in Lothian, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
The two-vehicle crash happened about 9:45 a.m. Thursday on northbound Sands Road just north of Ed Prout Road in Lothian. Police say a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier was southbound on Sands Road when it crossed the line on a curve ahead of Ed Prout Road and struck a Mack dump truck head-on.
The impact of the collision threw the Cavalier driver from the vehicle; she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Ashley Sheree Barnett, 29, of Dunkirk, the driver of the Cavalier, was flown to MedStar Washington Medical Center by U.S. Park Police helicopter with critical injuries; she later died at the hospital.
The driver of the dump truck owned by Jones of Annapolis, Inc. — Norman E. Catterton, 60, of Crownsville — suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

The preliminary cause of the crash is a failure of Barnett to keep her car right of the center line, police say. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol contributed to this crash, although witnesses reported the Chevy was driving at an excessive speed just before the crash.
Any charges are pending review by the state’s attorney.
