2 Passengers Arrested at BWI Airport for Packing Loaded Guns

Authorities say two people were arrested at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport last week because loaded guns were found in their carry-on luggage.

Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told WJLA TV that officers caught a man Thursday with a 9 mm handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition. The gun had allegedly been reported stolen in Portland, OR.

Farbstein says on Friday, a woman was arrested after officers found a loaded 38 caliber handgun in her carry-on bag.

A spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, 1st Sgt. Jonathan Green, identified the man as Dwight Tennyson of Upper Marlboro. He had a ticket to fly to Detroit.

Green said the woman who was detained is Rosane Strickland Coulon of Maxton, NC.

The specific charges filed against the suspects have not been released.

WBAL TV says Friday’s incident marked the sixth gun that officers have caught at BWI checkpoints so far this year. More than 1,000 have been confiscated nationwide.

Passengers who bring firearms to checkpoints are subject to criminal charges and civil penalties of up to $11,000, the TV station says.

Just last month, a Silver Spring woman and a Baltimore woman were charged in separate incidents after Transportation Security Administration officers said stun guns were found in their carry-on bags at BWI.

Firearms and ammunition can never be carried on planes, the TSA says, but can be checked in baggage.
