Eldersburg Bank Robbery Suspect Still at Large: Sheriff

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is investigating Susquehanna Bank robbery; it's the second time this month the branch has been hit.

Several schools were briefly locked down as authorities investigated a bank robbery in Eldersburg, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, which reported the suspect has not yet been found.

Deputies responded to the Susquehanna Bank in the 6400 block of Ridge Road at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday for a robbery in progress, the sheriff’s office reported.

A suspect whose face was partly covered by a scarf received an undisclosed amount of cash, then left on foot in the direction of Ridge Road, according to the report.

Canine teams from the sheriff’s office and Maryland State Police tried to track the suspect, the report said. Additionally, officers from the sheriff’s office, Sykesville Police Department and the Baltimore Environmental Police participated in the search, according to the report.

After 2 p.m., the sheriff’s office reported the suspect remained at large.

Multiple schools were briefly on lockdown because of the proximity of the bank robbery, according to the sherif’s office, which reported there was never any sign of danger to the students or staff.

According to the Carroll County Times, six schools were on modified lockdown after 11 a.m. due to the incident: Eldersburg Elementary, Piney Ridge Elementary, Freedom Elementary, Carrolltowne Elementary, Oklahoma Road Middle and Liberty High.

The sheriff’s office said this was done briefly as a precaution due to the proximity of the incident.

This is the second time a bank robbery has been reported at the Eldersburg branch in the past three weeks.

Authorities reported the same Susquehanna Bank branch was robbed at gunpoint on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office charged four Baltimore residents with armed robbery and other offenses in connection with the October holdup.

The robbery in October happened at 12:06 p.m., and after three men went into the bank with handguns and left with cash, police in Baltimore County police stopped a vehicle matching the getaway car’s description, resulting in the suspects being brought into custody, the sheriff’s office reported.

Police said Everette Lamont Savage, 39; Yimoe Siddha, 48; Thomas Johnson, 40; and Katrina Shaneka Harris, 41, were charged with armed robbery, robbery, first and second-degree assault, theft up to $100,000 and handgun offenses in connection with the Oct. 15 robbery.
