Student
leaders from Carroll County Public Schools FFA Chapters attended the 93rd
Maryland FFA Convention, which was held virtually from June 22-25, 2021. The
following Chapter members were recognized for their achievements:

Bethany
Miller and Payton Zepp from Francis Scott Key High School placed 5th
and 6th, respectively, in the Milk Quality event. Ryan Leister,
Elise McKenzie, and Sierra Wean received American degrees.

The
South Carroll High School Veterinary Science team took 1st
place. Sierra Mandeville placed 1st individually and Arianna Krach
placed 3rd. The Meat Evaluation Team also won 1st place,
with Alyson Schulze placing 1st individually, Sophie Phelps 3rd,
and Miranda Hoffman 5th. Alyson Schulze won 1st place in
Senior Extemporaneous Public Speaking, and Sophie Phelps placed 8th
in Creed Speaking. Sierra Mandeville finished 3rd in Employment
Skills.

Abby
Wimmer, a 2021 graduate of Westminster High School, was recognized for
her achievements in FFA, Agricultural Education, and Supervised Agricultural
Experience (SAE) through three awards. First, Abby was awarded GOLD in Veterinary Science Placement Proficiency
to recognize her accomplishments over four years working at a veterinary
clinic. Her award application will be
forwarded to National FFA for review and entry into national competition in the
fall. Second, Abby escalated to the
Maryland FFA State Degree, the highest level of membership in Maryland, earned
by less than 10% of FFA members in the state. Finally, Abby was named the Maryland FFA State Star in Agricultural
Placement, the highest achievement in Maryland for FFA members with SAE
programs that include work-study in paid and unpaid internships. Abby will represent WHS and Maryland in a
regional stars competition, held virtually in the fall, in conjunction with the
Big E in Massachusetts. Abby is the fourth consecutive Maryland FFA State Star
to emerge from the Westminster High School FFA program, preceded by Henry
Brunnett in 2018, Lesa Ramsburg in 2019, and Avery Dull in 2020. WHS FFA 2021
graduate Samantha Finazzo earned the Maryland FFA State Degree.

Westminster
High School placed 2nd in the Veterinary Science event. Abby Wimmer
placed 4th, Becca Winner 7th, and Samantha Finazzo 8th.
Ava Vraney received Honorable Mention. Caroline Boone finished in 4th
place in Employment Skills, Richard Dehart was 5th in the Creed
Speaking event, and Westminster High School was the 6th place team
in the Agricultural Mechanics event.

 

The Winters Mill High School Chapter Farm and Agribusiness
Management Team won 2nd place. Individual awards are listed below:

Hannah Haines from Winters Mill received the State FFA Degree.

The FFA Degree is presented to FFA members who have successfully
completed 360 hours of agricultural education instruction, productively
invested $1,000 or 300 hours in a supervised agricultural experience program,
and demonstrated leadership abilities above the chapter level.

Through
the course of the virtual event, FFA members were encouraged to live their
leadership potential, by the Maryland FFA State officer team.
