Loy, a senior at Francis Scott Key High School, was selected as a recipient of
the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. He was chosen out of over 5,800 applicants
from all over the US and related territories. This scholarship will give Loy up
to $40,000 to help pay for his four years at the University of Colorado.

The
Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship is tailored for academically exceptional students
in need of financial aid. The goal of the foundation is to provide support to
these students so that they can continue their academic success at these
higher-level educational institutions. Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who
have plans to enroll for the fall semester at college and are in need of
financial aid qualify for this scholarship.
Loy has been successful both academically and
socially at FSK and has become an integral part of the school community. He has
a strong work ethic, natural ability, and leadership qualities. He has
excelled in upper level classes including Honors and Advanced Placement
courses.
As an upperclassman, Loy participated in the
Project Lead the Way Engineering Program at the Carroll County Career and
Technology Center. This is a nationally recognized program where students have
the opportunity to earn articulated credit. He earned a spot in the program
competing against students from all area high schools. He is well versed in
Computer Aided Designed and used other software applications to develop 3-D
models, learned the principles of prototyping and robotics, as well as many
other facets of the design process. He has performed at the top of his
class.
In addition to his solid transcript, Loy has also been an active member of the school community, and his peers regard him as a leader. He is Captain of the Academic Challenge Team and has appeared on numerous episodes of “It’s Academic”, a local televised quiz competition for high school students. He is also a Captain of the Cross County, Indoor and Outdoor Track teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Youth Leadership Consortium, and Athletic Leadership
Council.

is his humble, inquisitive, and purposeful personality. From the moment he
entered our school, he has been respectful and polite. He is the first
one to arrive in class and the last one to leave. He always wants to learn more
and is very deserving of this honor.”
