Westminster, MD (August 2, 2021) – The Westminster Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Carroll County Health Department and The Shepherd’s Staff will host the 5th Annual Shop with a Cop Event on Monday, August 9, 2021. The event will be held from 11am to 1pm at Dutterer’s Park in Westminster rain or shine (Rain location at West Middle School Gym). Carroll County students who have been pre-registered for the event through The Shepherd’s Staff may attend. Members of the media are invited to attend as well.
In an effort to create a fun, positive opportunity for children in need in Carroll County to receive free school supplies for the 2021/2022 school year, The Shepherd’s Staff, along with many volunteers from the Westminster Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and the Carroll County Health Department will host a group of approximately 150 students for this event. Each student will be paired with a police officer to “shop” for free school supplies. Students will go home with a brand new backpack filled with grade-specific supplies to ensure they are prepared for the upcoming school year.
“We are so excited to be a part of the Shop with a Cop event again this year,” stated Brenda Meadows, Executive Director of The Shepherd’s Staff. “It is such an inspiring way to kick off the school year by allowing the children to interact with the officers and receive the much-needed school supplies with local law enforcement in a friendly, fun environment.”
Along with free school supplies, attendees will also be able to enjoy music by DJ Mobile Music Machine (Doug Abbott) and DJ Crazy Dave (Dave Reese), receive free haircuts offered by The Spa on West Main, see K-9 / Police Vehicles, take part in a school bus tour, receive a free Vision Screening from WalMart Optometry and enjoy food as well as refreshing treats by Kona Ice of Carroll County and The Cow.
Meadows continued, “This event would not be possible without our partnership with the Westminster Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and the Carroll County Health Department, as well as the help and donations from so many in our community. From the volunteers within the local police departments, to all of the organizations offering their services for free, we are very blessed and thankful.”
Registration for the Shop with a Cop program has ended and all slots have been filled. For those who missed registration for The Shepherd’s Staff’s Back-to-School program, late registration will run through August 20.
