Carroll County's Inaugural Restaurant Week: Baldwin’s Offers Meals With a View
Baldwin's Station offers a view of the nation's oldest railroad alongside lunch.

The eating area has a romantic feeling with low light and a view of the railroad tracks. My fiancée, Shirley Snyder even said, "I feel romantic here" about after being seated.
Stewart Dearie opened restaurant in 1997 and kept the connection to the railroad, with views of The Old Main Line, the oldest railway in the country.

Also going by the station is the Patapsco River, which separates Howard and Carroll counties.
The building was built in 1883 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are jewel-toned stained glass windows around the building.

There is a wrap-around deck which offers the choice of eating in or out. While we were eating Thursday, a freight train went by enroute to Baltimore.
"It was something new, something exciting," said Chris Santiago, assistant general manager of Baldwin's Station about Carroll County's first restaurant week. "We are all about trying something new. We really didn’t know if it was going to work, but it has taken off."
For restaurant week there is a separate lunch and dinner menu. The lunch menu can be two or three courses. The two course is $10.11 and the three course is $15.11. The meal includes a non-alcoholic beverage. The dinner menu is a three course dinner for $25.11.
Shirley and I split the smoked salmon flatbread for the first course. She had flat iron & Gruyere for her main course and I had the marinated portabella sandwich. For dessert, we had the Mary Ellen’s famous Vermont whoopee.
Yes, we each ordered a two course lunch and made it into three course by sharing. The restaurant week menu is a good deal, because the meal would have been more than $27 during a regular week.
Baldwin’s has received many awards since they have opened for their fare. They also host many special events that bring people from across the state.
Baldwin’s hosts many special events. "There are two new ones including a murder mystery tour and the Carroll Players. It has really caught on and folks like it," said Santiago.
"We also host a lot of weddings, bachelorette parties, bridal showers, and birthday parties. We do all kinds of parties. If you can think of a party, we do it," said Santiago.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. They are closed on Mondays. Lunch is served daily from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and dinner until 8:30 p.m. Sunday specials include brunch from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
