Silver Alert for Sykesville Man Canceled: Sheriff

A man last seen in Eldersburg Sunday night has been located, authorities say.

UPDATE (Monday afternoon)—The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reports that a missing Sykesville man has been found and the silver alert issued on his behalf has been canceled.

George Laneville Martin, 79, was found at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on Monday, after he had been missing since Sunday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.

Martin appeared to have fallen and gotten minor injuries, the sheriff’s office reported.

“...there is no evidence that any crime has occurred at this time,” the report said.

When he disappeared, Martin had been having car trouble with his blue Chevrolet Silverado, which police said Monday had been found.

Authorities have issued a “silver alert” for a man last seen at the Eldersburg Walmart on Sunday night, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

George Laneville Martin, 79, of Sykesville, was having car trouble with his 2005 dark blue Chevrolet Silverado at 9:48 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, when he was last seen, the sheriff’s office reported.

Martin had gone into the Walmart on Liberty Road in Eldersburg to call his wife and ask her to pick him up, the report said. He told a store employee he was then going to wait in his vehicle for her, according to the report.

Neither he nor his vehicle has been seen since Sunday night, authorities reported.

Martin is described as 5’4” tall, 150 pounds with blue eyes and white hair. When last seen, he was wearing a long gray button-down sweater, blue jeans and brown shoes, according to the sheriff’s office.
