County Says Banking Error Caught, Resolved

Approximately 230 Carroll County residents may see some extra activity on their next bank statement.

The Board of County Commissioners and their staff are working to correct an error made recently by BB&T, the county’s bank, according to a news release.

At the close of business on Jan. 5, the county deposited checks and cash payments made to the county by property owners for water bills and/or property tax bills the news release reports. On Jan. 6 the bank submitted the checks to the various banking institutions for payment as they usually do.

County representatives report that due to an internal banking error, the bank subsequently submitted the same checks for payment a second time. The error was noticed and county and banking staff began working to correct the problem immediately.

BB&T has assured the county that they will work to ensure the 230 affected accounts are not negatively impacted, the news release reports. Those affected will most likely see an extra withdrawal and a subsequent deposit on their next bank statement.
