Eldersburg Church Holds First 'Blessing of the Motorcycles'

You may have heard of a "blessing of the pets" at area churches, or maybe a "blessing of the backpacks," but one local church is going a step further with a first annual "blessing of the motorcycles." 

in Eldersburg is holding a special event at noon on April 22, and is inviting local motorcycle riders to consider attending for a blessing for safe riding this spring. 

"Each year, at the start of spring, you can hear and see the numerous motorcycles and riders stretching their legs. It’s almost like a 'rite of spring' along with the new buds and flowers," said Wesley outreach chairman Joe Cathey. "Perhaps, this is a way to have God watch over the riders."

Senior pastor Rev. Dr. Bill Brown, who suggested the idea for the service, will be officiating the blessing. 

"This is the first time and, depending on the response, it will probably be held annually," Cathey said. 

The service will be held in the parking lot next to the playground and all makes and models are welcome. Find more information on the event through the church's website here.
