Exploring Issues in Eldersburg: Is Camp Hashawha Safe for Children?

In sixth grade, students in the Carroll County Public School System take to the woods, spending a week in Outdoor School at Camp Hashawha in Westminster. 

Students from , Eldersburg's only middle school, earn 10 service hours from going to this camp, learning about the environment and the habitats that surround them. 

A few weeks ago, Camp Hashawha made headlines as a family filed a lawsuit against the county over the death of their son while attending camp at the nature center, according to an article by ABC2. 

A 100 foot tree fell on their 9-year-old boy during a storm at an overnight camp at Hashawha.

The family claims that the tree showed obvious signs of decay, according to the article.

Because Camp Hashawha is a place where many local middle school students attend Outdoor School, do you believe that it is unsafe for parents to send their children? Or was this a fluke accident that could have happened anywhere?
