Exploring Issues in Eldersburg: Is Camp Hashawha Safe for Children?

One family is suing Carroll County for the death of their son in 2009.

In sixth grade, students in the Carroll County Public School System take to the woods, spending a week in Outdoor School at Camp Hashawha in Westminster. 

Students from , Eldersburg's only middle school, earn 10 service hours from going to this camp, learning about the environment and the habitats that surround them. 

A few weeks ago, Camp Hashawha made headlines as a family filed a lawsuit against the county over the death of their son while attending camp at the nature center, according to an article by ABC2.

A 100 foot tree fell on their 9-year-old boy during a storm at an overnight camp at Hashawha.
