Got Students Interested in a Career in Natural Resources?
Carroll County Forestry Board offers Natural Resources Careers Camp, July 24 through July 30.
If you have high schoolers interested in a career in natural resources, then have them apply to the 2016 Natural Resources Career Camp being held at Hickory Environmental Education Center in Garrett County, MD https://garrettcountyschools.org/hickory.
The one-week program is a partnership with the Carroll County Forestry Board, Allegany College of Maryland, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service, and runs from July 24th through July 30th. Unlike most camps, NRCC offers participants hands-on field experiences along with classroom instruction from industry professionals. Opportunities to interact with software program like GIS, GPS, and other field simulation tools will be presented for learning the ins and outs of natural-resources management.
β¨Every participant will have fun experiences such as safely climbing trees using arborist equipment. Boy Scouts from local troops of the BSA who are accepted into the program, will have the opportunity to work on the Forestry Merit Badge. Those who are 16 years-of-age before the end of the camp, may opt to earn two college-level credits (fees required) from the Allegany College of Maryland. To be eligible for transferrable credits students must complete the entire week of the program, complete a short exam, and create a forest-management plan as part of a team. Most Maryland community colleges, and several state four-year colleges and four-year universities accept the two credits.
