Inside The Frozen Forest, Liberty's Pride Roars Beware

The 2016 Lions' Pride Marching Band wins 1st Place at Chapter V Regional Championship

On Saturday, October 22nd, Liberty High School's Lions' Pride Marching Band won 1st place for Group 3/Open Class at the Chapter V Regional Championship held at Linganore High School in Frederick County.

The sanctioning body responsible for judging the musicians and color guard is Tournament of Bands. The Pride earned a 93.9 (based on a 100-point scale) for their show entitled, "Beware The Frozen Forest” including special awards for best visual and music. As part of the awards presentation, the only school with members receiving additional recognition was Liberty. Two senior band members; Estelle Hansen and Caroline Olson were awarded $300 scholarships from TOB. According to Assistant Band Director Dave Fisher, the last time the band earned such accolades goes back to 1999. Immediately following the return to Eldersburg, the Marching Band Family roared victoriously as the 22nd Chapter Flag was placed in the LHS music-awards showcase. The Lions' Pride program is under the musical direction of Brandi Jason. Last week, an announcement was made that Jason is a semi-finalist for the 2017 Grammy Music Educator Award.

The next time the students take the field to compete with bands from 8 others states (Delaware, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia) will be on Sunday, November 6th. The Atlantic Coast Championship competition is being held at Hersheypark Stadium, Hershey, PA.
