Integrace Copper Ridge Launches Social Club for People with Early Stage Memory Loss

Alzheimer's Association awards $5,000 grant to support "Social Club at the Bistro;" First Meeting December 5

Integrace Copper Ridge, a nationally-recognized innovator in dementia support based in Sykesville, Md., is introducing a new social support program for individuals and their families living with early stage Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Known as the “Social Club at the Bistro,” the first meeting for the program will be held Monday, December 5 at 6pm at Copper Ridge.

Copper Ridge received a $5,000 grant from the Alzheimer’s Association Central Maryland Chapter to begin the Social Club at the Bistro, which will provide a stimulating environment, engaging activities and a social network for people living with the early stages of memory loss.

Meetings will be held monthly at the Copper Ridge Bistro – the community’s only restaurant created with the needs of those living with dementia in mind. At the December 5 kickoff meeting, guests will receive a complimentary light supper based on the MIND diet, which research has shown may lower the risk and effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Nicole Absar, M.D., medical director of the Memory Clinic at Copper Ridge will be present to share the latest information and answer questions. Following dinner, the group will brainstorm and plan social activities for the club to share in 2017, including yoga, art, ballroom and line dancing, movies, cooking classes, card games and more.

“We often hear that people feel so isolated when they’ve been given a diagnosis of dementia,” said Kathleen Curry, Integrace Director of Dementia Services. “The Social Club will provide participants with a chance to break through that barrier of isolation, and meet other people who are facing the same journey and together enjoy some wonderful times.”

The Social Club at the Bistro is open to anyone who is living with early stage dementia and their families/care partners. Space is limited and RSVP is required. Anyone wishing to attend the December 5 kickoff meeting may contact Kathleen Curry at 410-795-8808 ext. 1150 or kathleen.curry@integrace.org to register.
