Knight Pride: 5 Unforgettable Athletes From Century High School
From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Eldersburg.

Sports run deep in Eldersburg, MD, and Century High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Knight uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Century High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
1. Kaitlyn Huber – Collegiate Lacrosse & Field Hockey
A four-year letterwinner at Century High School, Kaitlyn Huber starred in lacrosse and field hockey while also competing in basketball and indoor track. A co-captain of both varsity programs as a senior, she earned first-team all-county and all-conference honors and went on to compete at Marquette University, where she has been recognized at the conference level for her defensive excellence. 2. Jenelle Balchune – Collegiate Lacrosse

3. Maura Linde – Distance Runner & Coach
Century High School alum Maura Linde developed into an elite distance runner, finishing 20th at the 2017 USATF Club Cross Country Championships and qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials despite illness leading up to the race. She now serves as an assistant cross country and track coach at Johns Hopkins University, continuing a lifelong connection to the sport that began in high school. 4. Julian Woods – Track & Field
Julian Woods was one of Century High School’s most accomplished track and field athletes, winning three individual Maryland state titles and anchoring a championship relay team en route to a 2A state title. A Carroll County Times Boys Indoor Track Athlete of the Year with a 4.07 GPA, Woods went on to compete at Mount St. Mary’s University on an athletic scholarship. 5. Lauren Schwarzmann (Skellchock) – Lacrosse Player & Coach
A member of Century High School’s first graduating class, Lauren Schwarzmann helped establish the school’s lacrosse program, leading the team to a state finals appearance before winning a state championship the following season.
