Liberty and Century Capture Indoor Regional Track Titles

Century and Liberty backed up their Carroll County title by capturing Class 2A West indoor track regional crowns Saturday.

The Century boys out distanced county foe Francis Scott Key by 14 points to grab the top spot. Liberty finished 10th and South Carroll 14th.

The Liberty girls downed Century by 18 points to take the girls title. South Carroll was 13th in the region.

The Century boys title was a team effort, as they had no first place finishers. In two events they captured two places.

The Liberty boys won the 4x800 relay for the Lions lone first place finish.

The Liberty girls 4x400 relay took first while the Lions took the first two places in the pole vault. The Lions are strong in the pole vault as Jamie Russell and Betsy Atkinson were first and second.

Senior Maura Linde paced the Century girls with a first in the 800 meter run and seconds in both the 1600 and 3200 runs. The Knights also captured the 4x800 relay.

The top first finishers in each event move onto the state meet which will be held on Feb. 21.
