Local Mom Brings ‘Doodle Darlings’ to Life With Website
Megan Kochanski takes her drawings from her notebook to the web with her new venture.

Megan Kochanski, an Eldersburg stay-at-home mom, dreamed and doodled her way to a new reality.
Kochanski's online venture, TheDoodleDarlings.com, is more than two years in the making. She wanted a business in which she could stay at home with her daughter, Katelyn, now 4, and use her creativity.
“I came up with so many ideas, but none of them panned out,” said Kochanski. “Becoming a mom made me a kind of expert an all things child-oriented.

'After drawing the same whimsical doodles for Katelyn that my dad drew for me to keep me occupied in church, I suddenly thought, 'Hey, I can do something with these doodles.'”
The doodles feature four cuddly creatures including Bramble Bunny, Snap Dragon Dinosaur, Laurel Lion and Honey Suckle Horse.

Not only do the creatures have their own unique design and colors, they also each have their own story.
“Honey Suckle Horse loves to be silly, Snap Dragon Dinosaur loves flowers, Laurel Lion loves to look up into the sky and imagine the different pictures the clouds are creating and Bramble Bunny searches non-stop for his carrot that he is always losing,” said Kochanski.
She brings the animals to life through the products she will offer customers through her new site.
“My website will be offering organic infant onesies featuring four of my designs as well as plush toys featuring the four animals,” she said.
A new plush character will be available every six months as well as new products and ideas.
“I also have plans for other products in the future, such as board books and nursery décor,” said Kochanski. “The possibilities are endless.”
But it hasn’t been an easy road for the stay-at-home mom-turned business entrepreneur.
“I had several failed attempts and bumps in the road, but I refused to give up,” she said. “My business is finally on its way to becoming a reality and this journey has been well worth it to me.”
She is also working with Sykesville-based children’s game designer Kneebouncers to bring the characters to life through games and learning applications.
“I want my company to focus not only the products I sell, but also encourage imagination and creativity in toddlers,” said Kochanski.
“I believe that more than academics there should be a real focus on encouraging children to use their imagination and creativity to express themselves. I truly believe imagination helps with developing problem-solving skills and giving them the ability to think outside the box.”
Her website, TheDoodleDarlings.com, is set to launch the week of Aug. 22.
