McDaniel College announces new assistant professors

Francis Grice, Political Science and International Studies, and Chia-En "Paul" Lin, Computer Science, join faculty at McDaniel

McDaniel College announces that Francis Grice, assistant professor of political science and international studies, and Chia-En β€œPaul” Lin, assistant professor of computer science, have recently joined the faculty at the college.

Francis Grice of Baltimore is an assistant professor of political science and international studies at McDaniel. His expertise is in international relations with regional specializations in China, the Asia-Pacific and security studies. He is passionate about interactive and engaging teaching, and takes a multidisciplinary approach to research combining international studies, history and military science. Courses he is teaching include β€œHeroic Leaders and Evil Tyrants,” β€œInternational Law and Organizations,” β€œInternational Relations of the Asia-Pacific” and β€œPolitics of China.” He also serves as the faculty advisor for the college’s Model United Nations club.

Grice has a Ph.D. from King’s College London and earned master’s degrees from the University of St. Andrews and University College London.

Chia-En β€œPaul” Lin, assistant professor of computer science, currently resides in Westminster, Md. An active researcher in performance accountability in developing and maintaining software and distributed systems, his studies are motivated by the popularity of distributed systems deployed for a variety of applications, including web services and high-performance computing. He views his teaching role as that of a coach in computer science, always making sure his students are equipped with the right foundations, wide explorations and sustainable performances. Currently, he is teaching the β€œArt of Programming” and β€œTheory of Computation” at McDaniel.

Lin holds a bachelor’s degree from Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan. He received a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of North Texas.
