Plenty to do for Seniors in Southern Carroll County

The mission of the Carroll County Bureau of Aging and Disabilities is to promote choice, dignity and independence for older adults, adults with disabilities and those who care for them. To that end there are several centers throughout the county offering a place filled with activities and options.

And if you haven't checked it out. You should. You would be amazed at the number of things to do. The Manager of the facility is Melissa Cougnet and the Assistant Manager is Katie Pass (as of the summer of 2017). The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 4:30 PM. Lunch is offered each day (although you'll need to reserve your lunch in advance - the process is very easy).

So what does everyone do there?

You probably would be better served finding out what they DON'T do! Are you into exercise, or sports? Every morning a group gathers to walk in the gym, following this several come in to play Pickleball. They offer Yoga, Zumba and other fitness classes. There are exercise machines in a room at the end of the hall. There are pool tables if pool is (or could be) your game.

What about dancing? Why, yes! They offer tap dancing and, would you believe, belly dancing!

If you are an artist or into crafting or ceramics, you'll be glad to know there are several others coming to the center for just that!

Do you play Bingo or Pinochle or Bridge or Dominos or Mah Jong or maybe all of them? If you do, there are players ready to welcome you with open arms.

There are reading groups, walking groups, and gardening groups who meet on a regular basis. And I would be remiss if I neglected to mention the travel which is organized out of the center. Almost every month a bus goes to a different casino and six to eight times each year another bus goes to a show or a boat trip or a special luncheon.

You Don't Have To Be Lonely

You will feel wonderful if you come into the center looking for new friends. If you have ever thought "I am lonely" or "I am bored" then that settles it, visit the South Carroll Senior and Community Center today. You should feel that way. You won't ever feel that way again. Your social calendar might be so busy that you'll be double booked! Can you imagine? Visit the center and find out.
