Possible Scam in Eldersburg Reported

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office reminds citizens to use caution, contact law enforcement if door-to-door vendors are suspicious.

A possible scam has been reported in the Eldersburg area, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

A resident said that a man in a silver Ford truck with a ladder on top of it stopped at his home and said chimney work was needed, the sheriff’s office reported.

The resident had recently had work done on the chimney and requested the person leave contact information but the individual did not, according to the report.

When he conferred with neighbors, the resident learned that they had been visited by the same person, who used the same tactic, according to the sheriff’s office.

There may have been a second suspect driving the silver truck, the sheriff’s office reported.

“The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to use caution when dealing with door to door vendors,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“While some of these may have legitimate offers, others may have malicious intent,” the statement said. “Never hesitate to contact local law enforcement if you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
