Primary Election Day Slow in Eldersburg

Voters are slowly trickling into polls Tuesday afternoon as primary voting takes place in Maryland. 

"It's been very slow today," said Michael Zimmerman, campaign chairman for Dave Wallace, the Republican candidate for the District 8 U.S. House of Representatives seat.

"The people that are here seem to have made up their minds already but we're just here to encourage the people who are showing up," said Zimmerman while standing outside of Tuesday morning. 

Among the candidates lining up to greet voters at the Eldersburg school, was Ken Timmerman, Republican candidate for the U.S. House in District 8. 

"It has been a very light turnout so far," he said. 

Timmerman had traveled to Carroll County after visiting the polls and running into Democratic candidate for Congress in District 8 Chris Van Hollen in Montgomery County, hopeful of winning the primary election, stating, "When I saw him, I said 'I look forward to beating you in November.' "

Less than 150 voters had visited the polls at as of noon, according to an election judge, who noted that this might be the lowest attendance at a primary election in the county. 

Judy Bach, an administrator for Dave Wallace's campaign who was holding signs in front of Liberty High, said she expected it to be this slow. 

"People just don't come out for primary day," she said.
