Sykesville Salon to Raise Money For Breast Cancer With First Cut-a-Thon

Samsara salon hopes to raise $1,000 for the Carroll Hospital Center Women's Place.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month is doing something they’ve never done before.

The salon and spa will be sponsoring a “cut-a-thon” during the Sykesville Fall Festival Saturday, donating all of the proceeds to the Women’s Place at Carroll Hospital Center.

“We have always talked about a cut-a-thon and this year we decided to finally make it happen,” said Betty Thomas, co-owner of Samsara alongside stylist Melissa Wagner.

The cut-a-thon will take place in the salon on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.

Samsara will be offering haircuts, paraffin hand treatments, seated chair massages, pink clip in extensions, temporary pink hair flair and more for a $10 minimum donation.

Through this new event Samsara is hoping to not only give money to cancer research but also participate in a large community event that is typically hard for a salon to take part in.

“As a salon at the Sykesville Fall Festival it’s been difficult to do services,” said Thomas. “Last year we decided to close but we didn’t like that because we wanted to participate in this huge event for Main Street Sykesville. This is a new effort to make an appearance in the community but also give back to those who need it most.”
