Winfield Firefighters Assist in Mount Airy House Fire
The house sustained more than $10,000 in damages, officials said.

Firefighters from the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department in Sykesville assisted in controlling a fire in Mount Airy on Monday, started by unattended cooking in the kitchen, according to a press release from Deputy State Fire Marshal Brian Quick.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. Feb. 20, the Mount Airy Fire Department received a 911 dispatch for a kitchen fire in the 5400 block of Ridge Road in Mount Airy, according a post by Chief Ivan Browning on the fire department's website.

All occupants made it out of the home safely because of the action of a young child who alerted his parents to the fire, according to the Mount Airy Fire Department.
Home owner Julian Clemons suffered minor burns to his right hand in the fire, which caused about $10,000 of damage to his home, according to a press release from the State Fire Marshal.

The fire was contained to the kitchen area with some smoke damage to the rest of the house.
The fire took about 12 firefighters 15 minutes to control, with units operating at the scene for more than an hour Monday night, according to the Mount Airy Fire Department.
