• Howard County Executive Ball Seeks Eligible Members for Police Accountability Board from Councilmanic Districts 2 and 5 (howardcountymd.gov) — If you live in southern Elkridge, Howard County is seeking a resident from Councilmanic District 2 to serve on the Police Accountability Board for a three-year term. Applicants must be at least 25, active in community service, and able to attend quarterly meetings. The role includes reviewing police discipline trends, forwarding complaints, and working with youth, with applications due by September 4, 2026.
   

• Maryland officials weigh plan to grow a forest with soil made from composted human remains (thecooldown.com) — An Elkridge-based funeral home, Earth Funeral, is at the center of a Maryland debate over using soil from human composting to grow a new forest in Worcester County. State law already allows natural organic reduction, but local zoning officials are weighing whether donated soil can be applied on farmland for reforestation. Their decision could shape how similar green burial projects operate across Maryland.
