Girl Rising, a film which spotlights nine unforgettable girls born into unforgiving circumstances, will be premiered at UA Snowden Square Stadium 14 in Columbia on Thursday, March 7, at 5 p.m. Before the film begins, representatives of The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County will briefly discuss ways that WGC is empowering local women and girls. The movie is open to the public. Admission is $10.
The film is narrated by Cate Blanchett, Priyanka Chopra, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, Chloe Moretz, Liam Neeson, Frieda Pinto, Meryl Streep and Kerry Washington. Girl Rising is part of 10x10, a global campaign to educate and empower girls.
The Women’s Giving Circle is a community of women philanthropists addressing the needs of women and girls in Howard County. Among its activities, WGC founded a camp for middle school girls, Journey, and established a scholarship fund at Howard Community College for women who are seeking training to improve their employment options. It provides emergency funding to local organizations serving women in need, among other grants.
