makingCHANGE Hosts Youth Finance Event

Local financial education organization makingChange and Junior Achievement of Central Maryland hosted financial planning exercises for students and their families at Howard Community College recently.

The third annual Y-Fi Challenge included “real life” simulation of planning, goal setting and decision making experiences faced by those choosing a career and sticking to a budget.  Students visited stations manned by representatives of local businesses, who discussed everything from transportation, insurance and banking to housing, utilities and clothing.  Over 100 students and their families attended the event.

Sponsors of the Y-Fi Challenge included The Wendy Slaughter Team / REMAX Advantage Realty, Howard County General Hospital, Simmerer Insurance, The Columbia Bank, M&T Bank, Northwest Savings Bank, Sandy Spring Bank, College Savings Plans of Maryland, The Lisa Higgins-Hussman Foundation and Ken Danker of Morgan Stanley’s Danker / DeCapite Group.
