makingCHANGE Offers Free Tax Preparation

A local non-profit organization, makingChange, is participating in the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) program and is providing free tax filing assistance to qualified residents in the community through April 13. More taxpayers with earnings up to $50,000 in 2012 are eligible for free tax return assistance and electronic filing.

Taxpayers who visit a V.I.T.A. site should bring wage and earnings statements (Form W-2) from all employers, interest statements from banks (Forms 1099), a copy of their previous year’s tax return if available, and other relevant information about income and expenses.

Assistance is available at the North Laurel-Savage Multiservice Center, 9900 Washington Boulevard (Route 1) in Laurel, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4-8 p.m., and Saturdays, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  Appointments are encouraged; call 410-880-5917.
