NEIGHBOR RIDE HONORED AS 2013 TOP-RATED NONPROFIT

Neighbor Ride announced that it has been honored with a 2013 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations. The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Neighbor Ride received – reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit. For example, one person wrote,

“I've enjoyed my 3-and-counting years as a volunteer driver for Neighbor Ride. The communication system is easy to understand, and it's quick, enabling me to volunteer for a ride, or decline one that's been suggested for me. I've had rare situations where I've needed to contact someone right away about a problem, and the folks working the phone are great. That's the boring, inside stuff. 

But giving rides to people who need them, and enjoying the companionship, stories, and camaraderie is what it's really about. Sometimes my young sons accompany me, and they get a lot out of it too. The day my 12-year old was able to carry a box of home-cooked meals for an elderly woman going to a church to feed OTHER less-advantaged people was eye-opening for him. It was a glimpse at people who need help who are also ABLE to help others. He felt so good to be able to help her, and he appreciated seeing first-hand how many layers there are to service.

While the Top-Rated Awards run through the end of October, Neighbor Ride was part of the inaugural group to qualify for the year.

“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “People with direct experience with Neighbor Ride have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”

Being on the Top-Rated list gives donors and volunteers more confidence that this is a credible organization. The reviews by volunteers, clients and other donors show the on-the-ground results of this nonprofit. This award is a form of recognition by the community.

Neighbor Ride is a volunteer-based nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the health and quality of life for Howard County’s older residents by providing affordable transportation for health care appointments, cultural and social activities, religious services, shopping and other personal needs.  Neighbor Ride offers this service so seniors, age 60 and over, can remain active, independent and connected to the community.
