ProStart Culinary Competition 3rd Place National Champions

Kudos to the Culinary Team from ARL/Howard High School.  After winning the Maryland ProStart® Competition on March 7th they qualified to compete at the National ProStart® Competition on April 19-21st at the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore.

The combined Culinary Team from ARL/Howard High School gave a flawless performance to win third place in the nation at the National ProStart® Invitational. This is the highest any Maryland team has placed in the national competition.

The National ProStart Invitational® is the country’s premier high school competition focused on restaurant management and culinary arts.  The 12th Annual National ProStart Invitational brought together the top ProStart® students from 43 states and territories to showcase their talent, passion and skills.   The winning teams took home $1.4 million in scholarship dollars.

 The ARL/Howard team, consisting of seniors Natalie Singleton and Kiran Martin (Maryland ProStart Student of the Year) along with juniors Darcey Bodziony, Jessie Green and Emma Spalding, had just 60 minutes to prepare and plate:

First course: Shrimp, Scallop and Lump Crab Ceviche

Second course: Paneed Cocoa Chipotle Rubbed Teres Major

Third course: Salted Caramel Coffee Mousse

Teachers Rhonda Lang (ARL) and Dayna Spoto (Howard) worked with team mentor, Chef Marc Dixon of Bistro Blanc, to develop the menu and guide the team to victory.
