
Carol A. Beatty, Executive Director of The Arc of Howard County, has been named to The Daily Record’s 2013 list of Maryland’s Top 100 Women and will be honored at the Meyerhof Symphony Hall in Baltimore on May 6.
The Daily Record’s annual list of Maryland’s Top 100 Women was created to recognize outstanding achievement by women who have demonstrated significant professional accomplishments, outstanding community leadership and inspirational mentoring.
For the past 20 years, Beatty has overseen a nonprofit organization that provides advocacy, housing, recreational services, and employment training, placement and on-the-job support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as respite care for their families. Over 1,000 individuals and families are served by The Arc of Howard County.

Beatty, a Columbia resident, is considered a ground-breaking pioneer in advancing the human rights of people with developmental disabilities and helping create a more caring community for all Howard County citizens. She was inducted in the Howard County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2012 and presented the Howard County Human Rights Commission’s 2011 Human Rights Award for an individual whose “exemplary citizenship, dedicated leadership and outstanding achievement” has advanced human rights for all residents of Howard County.
