Members of the Columbia office of BB&T Insurance Services have transformed the family room at Grassroots, Howard County’s crisis intervention center and emergency shelter.
A four-member team, led by Lynn Kopenhaver and including Amanda Rendell, David Saul and David Shellem, painted the room, refinished a table and replaced the furniture with three new sofas, a coffee table and area rug the company purchased.

The volunteers were participating in the BB&T Lighthouse Project, an annual company-wide community service effort held during work hours.
Grassroots provides the county’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots’ 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds to community emergencies, and manage the county's emergency shelter for homeless men, women and families.
