Maryland Surcharge Increase
Maryland Land Records Surcharge Increase on deeds being recorded after July 1, 2011. This is a fee you pay to Maryland with your closing cost at the time of settlement.

Hello Elkridge,
This is my first real estate blog posting on Elkridge Patch. I will be posting blogs every Monday and sometimes during the week. Here is my first "what you need to know" about real estate.
- Maryland Clerks of Circuit Court and Land Records Office on May 6, 2011, approved the following: land records surcharge increases. In this year's operating budget, the General Assembly provided that the surcharge for instruments recorded (deed) in the land records of financing statement records will be increased from $20 to $40. The increased surcharge will affect instruments executed on or after July 1, 2011. A deed executed before July 1, 2011 (settled), but presented after July 1, 2011, is not affected by the new surcharge. In theory, the surcharge will expire on June 30, 2015.
