Community Foundation of Howard County Takes Over Fund

The Community Foundation of Howard County, which raises, manages and distributes funds to support Howard County nonprofits, took over administration of the Design House Kitchens and Appliances LLC Fund, a donor-advised endowed fund transferred from The Foundation for Enhancing Communities in Harrisburg, Pa.

“We live here in Howard County, we work here, we care about our neighbors,” said Harry Spector, fund donor and president of Design House Kitchens and Appliances. “We want Howard County to benefit, as we’ve benefited from Howard County. A fund with the Community Foundation of Howard County is the perfect vehicle to support the causes and services in our backyard.”

Spector’s father, Morton Spector, established the fund in 1998 with The Harrisburg Foundation, which since changed its name to The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. The Spectors named the fund after their family business, Design House Kitchens and Appliances, which Harry Spector’s grandfather established in Pennsylvania in 1918. The company, now based in Savage, Md., has grown to serve the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., area as well as southern Pennsylvania and Delaware.

“When The Columbia Foundation changed its name to the Community Foundation of Howard County, a light went off. This is where our fund should be, supporting organizations throughout Howard County, where we currently live and work. We were pleased to transfer the fund to the Community Foundation of Howard County,” Spector said.

The Design House Kitchens and Appliances Fund supports a broad range of causes throughout Howard County, including the American Heart Association’s Howard County Heart Ball.
