Crash on Route 1 Sends One to Hospital (UPDATED 9/30 at 7:30 p.m.)

Police said after an Oldsmobile collided with a tractor-trailer Friday morning, one man was taken to shock trauma.

One man was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after his car rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Washington Boulevard in Elkridge Friday morning, said police. 

According to police, at approximately 7:38 a.m., a Mack tractor-trailer was waiting to turn left from US 1 north into a commercial fueling site near Business Parkway when a 1994 Oldsmobile struck it from behind.

Roland Corvin, 21, of Rosedale, was rescued from the Oldsmobile and was taken to shock trauma by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, said Elizabeth Schroen, spokeswoman for the Howard County Police Department.

The driver of the truck, Fenell Theodore McDonald, 49, of Baltimore, was not injured, said police.

Washington Boulevard was closed between Business Parkway and Brookdale Drive until approximately 8:40 a.m. as fire and rescue crews cleared the scene and both vehicles were towed.

"No citations have been issued at this time," said Schroen. "The investigation continues.”

Emergency personnel had to extricate someone from a vehicle Friday morning on Route 1 in Elkridge, said police.

One person was taken by ambulance for medical treatment, said Elizabeth Schroen, spokeswoman for the Howard County Police Department.

Washington Boulevard was closed in both directions between Business Parkway and Brookdale Drive until approximately 8:40 a.m. Friday as fire and rescue crews cleared the scene.

No further information was available, said police.
