Route 1 Reopens After Dump Truck Crash In Elkridge: Police
A truck knocked down utility lines on Washington Boulevard, leading to a lengthy road closure, Howard County police reported.

ELKRIDGE, MD - A dump truck crash in Elkridge resulted in a nearly 12-hour closure of US 1, trapping a neighborhood and causing major detours on Tuesday.
A dump truck ran into power lines on US 1/Washington Boulevard between Troy Hill Drive and the MD 100 interchange before 4 a.m. Police said that the vehicle was involved in roadwork when it traveled 0.25 mile with its bed raised, damaging power lines and utility poles.
Washington Boulevard reopened as of 3:09 p.m., police reported.

These traffic modifications were put into place in the morning and ran into the afternoon until the road was cleared after 3 p.m., according to the Howard County Police Department:
- Route 1 north is being diverted onto MD 100 east.
- Route 1 south turns around at Troy Hill Drive, has no access to MD 100.
- Residents off Amberton Drive are not allowed to leave or return to the neighborhood as utility crews are working on repairs.
Nobody was injured as a result of the incident, according to officials. Workers with BGE and the State Highway Administration handled the scene.

More than 100 BGE customers were without power in the area Tuesday morning, according to the utility company.
