As a result to Howard County Public Schools closing earlier than expected and now ending Friday, June 14, Howard Community College has added four new Kids on Campus classes for the week of June 17-21 so that residents have an enriching, fun, academic experience to offer their children. Supervised lunch will be available so students have the option to participate in a full day of activities and stay on campus from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For elementary school students ages 9-10, HCC’s Kids on Campus Program is offering a FutureFab Jr. class, where students can work with experienced engineers and artists to design their own unique, rolling, wiggling and illuminated functional objects and electrified sculpture using motors, LEDs, electronic components, fabrication tools and advanced materials. In addition, two separate sections of App Attack: Make Your First Game App has been added for elementary school students ages 8-10 and middle school students ages 11-14; both classes of students will explore the app universe and create their own mobile application or mobile game. Beyond the Blocks is also open for middle school students ages 11-14 to gain hands-on experience in soldering circuits, lighting LEDs, programming microcontrollers, and constructing with plastic bricks. During the supervised lunch period, students will be assigned a room to dine according to their age level. Nonperishable lunches are required.
