Residences at Vantage Point continues its Fall series of Arts & Culture Collective programming with popular local college instructor George Clack in a lecture and discussion, “Marvelous Memoirs II: How do writers make their life stories compelling to readers?” The free event is slated for Oct. 11, from 7-8:15 p.m. in the retirement community’s auditorium.

Clack’s program will include discussion of four opening paragraphs of acclaimed memoirs: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass, The Liar’s Club by Mary Karr, Somewhere Towards the End by Diana Athill, and Let Me Finish by Roger Angell. Clack will explore techniques writers use to pull readers into their memoir. Program registrants will receive electronic versions of the excerpts in advance of the session.

As a follow-up to his presentation on memoir during the Spring 2021 Arts & Cultural Collective series, Clack will also feature tips for getting started writing your own reminiscences by focusing on the stories of your life.
