Lightning Causes Shed Fire Near Meadowridge

A shed went up in flames as the result of mother nature Thursday, according to fire officials.

A backyard shed in the Elkridge neighborhood of Meadowridge Landing caught fire Thursday afternoon, leaving approximately $3,000 in damages, Assistant Chief Joseph Dixon said.

The fire on the 6400 block of Sedgwick Street was reported before 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, and Dixon said it took about 15 minutes to extinguish. Nobody was injured, said Dixon.

Crews remained on the scene to investigate and found the cause was natural.

"The fire was confirmed to be the result of a lightning strike," said Dixon. "Mother nature at work."
