Nine Men Arrested in Prostitution Sting on Route 1 Corridor

Howard County police targeted an area in Laurel.

In response to citizens' concerns about activity along the US 1 corridor, Howard County police recently took to the streets, posing as prostitutes.

Female officers were stationed in "areas targeted by citizen complaints" for the June 24 operation, according to a press release issued Tuesday.

Police arrested nine men who tried to solicit the undercover officers for sex, said the report. More than half of the men were Howard County residents:

  • 2 were from Elkridge
  • 1 was from Columbia
  • 1 was from Germantown
  • 1 was from Hyattsville
  • 1 was from Rosedale

Howard County police have been doing these stings, which they call "reverse prostitution" operations, since 2006. According to a release issued almost five years ago, the stings began in response to prostitution and drug-related activity in Jessup, Laurel and Elkridge.
