Pink Rabbit Brings Art to Elkridge

The Elkridge library has a new attraction.

 

Since Monday, a big bunny has been hanging out in front of the .

Called “Pink Rabbit,” the steel sculpture is the first of 12 Howard County art installations that are on loan to the county for one year.

Sponsored by the Howard County Arts Council, the initiative called "ARTsites" is designed to generate public interest in art by placing sculptures in high-traffic locations.

“Pink Rabbit” made its initial appearance on April 2 along Route 1 south of Rowanberry Drive.

The Elkridge branch of the Howard County library provides "great visibility, both on the road and through visitors to the library and ," said Beth Forbes, gallery director for the Howard County Arts Council.

One sculpture was placed outside Ellicott City's George Howard Building this week and 10 others will be installed in Columbia, Cooksville and Laurel throughout the month. (See the list of sites, provided by the arts council.)

“We wanted to time it with the [blossoming] of [cherry] trees that are at the Elkridge library, so we put it in a little earlier than the others,” said Forbes.

For now, "Pink Rabbit" is concealed by a pink cover. It will be officially unveiled in a  on April 10, attended by County Executive Ken Ulman and Council Chair Mary Kay Sigaty outside the Elkridge library.
