“The officer told the man to stop,” said Llewellyn.
“He continued on, he had the gun displayed, somehow they ended up back here [at Hi Tech Drive] and there was a confrontation," continued Llewellyn.
The police department said in a written statement Monday evening that officers followed the man, who was walking along the railroad tracks, to the back parking lot of an industrial complex on the 7400 block of Hi Tech Drive in Hanover.
"There were multiple officers telling him to drop the gun, and as a result of the confrontation, they fired shots and he’s now at shock trauma," said Llewellyn. The department said in a written statement that it is still investigating how many officers were involved.
The man was taken by ground to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where his status is unknown. Llewellyn said the officers involved were in good condition.
At 4:30 p.m., Llewellyn said the area at Hi Tech Drive would be closed off for several hours as the department conducts an internal investigation, interviewing all the officers involved and conducting a forensic evaluation.
“We immediately launch an internal investigation. There’s a lot of work to be done,” said Llewellyn.
Officials said that the area is safe. “No one’s in any danger,” said Llewellyn. “This person is clearly at the hospital, so there’s nobody on the loose.”
