1,436 Students, Staff At Howard County Public School System Quarantining Due To COVID-19

As of Oct. 8, more than 1,400 students and staff with HCPSS are in quarantine. The school district will release COVID-19 statistics weekly.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — More than 1,400 students and staff with the Howard County Public School System are quarantining due to a positive COVID-19 test or from having been in close contact with a person who tested positive. According to the school district, 1,400 students and 36 staff members are in quarantine due to a positive COVID-19 test or as a close contact. Most cases are occurring at the middle school level, according to the district's dashboard.

The school district releases these numbers weekly. According to the school district, these reported numbers reflect positive test results that have been self-reported to HCPSS. The data reflects the date HCPSS was notified of the positive case and not necessarily the date of the positive test result.

There are more than 57,000 students enrolled at HCPSS and an estimated 5,000 staff members.

As of Oct. 8, there are 11,510 active COVID-19 cases in Howard County and a total of 22,404 COVID-19 cases so far in Howard County. There have been 263 deaths in the county due to COVID-19. So far, 234,000 county residents have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 235,298 residents are fully vaccinated.
