$10.7M Road Project Begins This Week, Calls For Lane Closures In Howard County

A $10.7M road widening project begins this week in Howard County near Ellicott City. Drivers should expect lane closures.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A $10.7 million roadway-widening project in Ellicott City will begin this week, Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration officials say.

The project will widen MD 103 between US 29 and Long Gate Parkway and add a third lane on MD 103 for motorists accessing northbound U.S. 29, according to the MDOT.

Single-lane and shoulder closures will happen along MD 103 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday during construction. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2023

Several other improvements will be included in this project such as:

  • Installation of sidewalk and bicycle lanes
  • Replacement of curb, gutter and drainage pipes
  • Reconstruction of traffic signals
  • Relocation of underground and overhead utilities
  • Improvements to landscaping and storm water management
